in Summer
| In summer, the landscape of Val di Sole is characterized by imposing and majestic settings: eternal glaciers crown the massive and high mountains whose slopes are covered by a thick woodland that leaves space in the lower part of the valley to the farmlands and orchards. Another important aspect in the mountain landscape is water, on which the Sole, Pejo and Rabbi valleys are extremely rich. While the river Noce runs along the bottom of the valley, an ideal training place for enthusiasts of canoeing, rafting and kayak, from the sides of the mountains rush numerous streams and spectacular waterfalls decorate the surroundings with their white gushing water. Water, both in Val di Rabbi and in Val di Pejo, have even therapeutic properties which has favoured in both valleys the development of thermal tourism. The two spa centres of Rabbi and Pejo have been built recently. Besides nature, also the man-made environment of Val di Sole, Pejo and Rabbi shows a typically alpine imprint: e.g. the lodges made of stone and wood are peculiar to Val di Rabbi, a lateral valley. The villages of Val di Sole, where marks of the former alpine settlements can still be seen, preserve buildings of historical and artistic interest, such as many churches, Castel Caldes, the Samoclevo fortress and the Castle of Ossana. In Malé, the administrative capital of the valley, there is the Museum of the Val di Sole Civilization. There is gathered the evidence of life which has been written during the past centuries by the people of Val di Sole and their mountain culture there. |
